NCS
‘Essex Boys & Girls Clubs (EBGC) are delivering National Citizen Service (NCS) programmes for young people aged 15-17 across Mid Essex in 2022.
What is NCS?
NCS is a UK wide youth programme for young people aged 15-17 taking place in both the summer holidays and autumn school term with the aim of providing life-changing experiences for the young people who take part (NCSers). The programme provides the buzz of being an adult without all the responsibilities. Over the course of 2 weeks, NCSers will be part of a crash course that will inspire them to feel confident, independent and ready to overcome whatever challenges life may throw at them!
The Summer Programme
The NCS programme is divided into 4 phases:
Be Epic – Gives NCSers a chance to head away from home to an outdoor adventure centre where they’ll meet loads of new people, overcome challenges they didn’t think possible and have a laugh all at the same time!
Live Life – Finishing off week 1 of their NCS experience, NCSers will be focusing on being independent and mastering skills like cooking, public speaking and first aid that will set them up to succeed wherever life takes them in the future.
Do Good – Back at home for the second week of NCS, the NCSers will have the chance to get their entrepreneurial heads on to plan and deliver a social action project to do good in their local area.
Go Party – A few weeks after the main programme, NCSers will have the chance to get together and celebrate all they have accomplished throughout NCS (as well as getting a certificate signed by the Prime Minister).
The course may only last 2 weeks, but the benefits of the new skills, confidence and friendships will stay with the completers (NCS Grads) for a lifetime!
NCS is only the beginning… Once the main NCS experience is over we have loads of opportunities for Grads to keep developing their skills and making a huge difference to their communities as part of our Changemakers group. It could be volunteering with one of our partner clubs, taking part in youth work qualifications and activities all over the world or coming back to work on NCS to make sure other NCSers have an amazing experience.
More than 600,000 young people across the UK have benefited from being part of NCS since it began in 2011. If you or your club members want to find out more don’t hesitate to get in touch (ncs@essexboysandgirlsclubs.org), we will be happy to give you more information about our programmes or if you’re ready to sign up for the experience of your life head over to wearencs.com!’
