Our Partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation Continues
Essex Boys and Girls Clubs have worked in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundation for many years. We are delighted that the Foundation have decided to continue their support of our extensive Activity Programme for 2017/18, enhancing our traditional annual activities to raise participation.
In the first year of the programme Essex Boys and Girls Clubs saw 1424 young people attend events in a wide range of sports and activities. This year will see further improvements to the scheme with the aim to see 1600 young people across our events calendar.
Why is this project important?
Increased sporting participation not only impacts on club members’ fitness, health and well-being but also improves life skills such as teamwork and leadership, self-esteem and confidence to meet new people, and resilience built by feeling part of a supportive community. Club leaders also see positive benefits of attending events where they have the chance to network with like-minded volunteers.
What does the funding pay for?
The Jack Petchey Foundation’s support has enabled us to put further efforts into engaging and recruiting clubs to attend events. The funding also covers the costs of some of the events, including allowing venue upgrades and an incentive scheme consisting of co-branded prizes and active rewards for clubs with highest attendance.
Which events are included in the programme?
In the 2017/18 programme there will be the usual fantastic events our clubs and young people love to attend with more events added as the year goes on. We hope to see new and old faces at our events this year, maybe one you have attended previously or something new you have always wanted to try. Below is a taste of what we have planned for this year:
- 100 Mile Canoe Test
- Boxing Championships
- Cricket Camp
- Laser Tag
- Stubbers Activity Days
- Shooting Competition
- Easter Cup
- Adventure Weekend
- Angling Competition
- 5-A-Side Football Championships
