Providing a Safe Environment

It is essential that a club’s Committee ensures that they create and maintain a safe environment, in all aspects of the term, for their members, volunteers and staff.

Safeguarding Young People

We can assist new and existing clubs to understand how to achieve this goal by working with them and identifying and delivering suitable training and development.

Safeguarding Officer
We expect affiliated clubs to appoint a suitable person to have special responsibility for safeguarding and related child protection issues. We can assist in the training development of the person alongside generalised safeguarding training for the other volunteers. See our events page for upcoming Safeguarding Training courses or contact us.

DBS Checks: Disclosure and Barring Service (previously CRB) Checks
Adults and volunteers working with children and young people in a club environment need to be checked up to an Enhanced level. However, with the introduction of the Disclosure and Barring Service from 1 December 2012, a more common sense approach has been adopted. Volunteers can benefit from a free service which will allow them to re-use criminal records checks time and time again. Instead they will only have to apply once to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a certificate and can then go online for an instant check to find out whether their existing certificate is still up to date.

This will avoid the need for individuals to apply for multiple checks to work with different organisations and volunteers will be able to use the service for free when they apply for different volunteering opportunities. If the Club Leader, on seeing the up to date enhanced DBS check is happy, the Volunteer does not need to have another DBS check carried out. We can provide initial checking for new DBS checks and will verify evidence.  For further information contact us.

Our Insurance

For those who need it, details of Essex Boys and Girls Clubs Insurance Cover can be accessed here >

Please note that EBGC’s insurance covers activities when EBGC has responsiblity for young people, meaning that each club needs their own insurance to cover their club activities.
