Up the Creek with some Paddlers!

Over the May Bank Holiday Weekend a group of 12 paddlers and 2 support crew embarked on the 49th Annual 100m Canoe Test.on the River Wye.

The challenge takes place over 4 days and is a stern test of both mental and physical endurance. Fortunately this year the paddlers were kept fueled by the culinary expertise of Charlie from the office; providing a range of meals of unsurpassed quality!

The challenge was extremely successful for EBGC as all but 2 of the team (thanks to injury and illness respectively) managed to complete the 100miles.

Special praise should go to Mike Fisher, for retaining his record of being the first to capsize every time he gets in a kayak!  Also to Alex Bottoms (Upminster CC), who discovered that trying to stand up in your canoe during the first 3 miles of a 30 mile  day is not conducive to staying dry and warm!  Finally to all of the young lads from 2nd Upminster Scouts, Upminster CC and Linford Wanderers FC  who finally managed to get Dave Hassard (who had by that time earned the nickname ‘Mein Fuhrer’ for his ruthless efficiency in ensuring the team did not lag behind the pace) in the water on the final day!
