Another Action Packed Summer Camp up in the Lake District

Tyla Harts in depth Summer Camp Review!

On the 24th July at 8:15am I was picked up by Jamie Drummond and we travelled to Stubbers to get a mini-bus to the Lake District. When we arrived in the Lake District and got to our destination I saw a hostel which was where we were going to stay for a week. When we went in the hostel we were told to choose our rooms and who was in our rooms. When we got to our rooms we put our sleeping bags on our beds and our pillows, we then put our bags on the floor and went downstairs for a meeting about the week ahead after the meeting we were asked if we had the equipment required for the week. The equipment I needed was a waterproof jacket, waterproof trousers, walking boots and a day sack. We were then told we were going up a mountain called Cat Bells. So we had to get ready for that. When we were ready we got on the mini bus and set off to cat bells. When we got there we made our way up to the mountain. At first I struggled to get up the mountain but at the end I started to get used to it. When we got to the top we had a rest then we made our way back to the minibus. When we got to the minibus we took our boots off and got on. Then we made our way back to the hostel we went in to the living room for another meeting about the rota for who sets up clears up and wash’s up. Once we had tea it was my turn to clear up the plates, cutlery and cups for two other people to wash up.

On Sunday the 25th July I woke up, got showered, got dresses and went downstairs for breakfast. For breakfast we had cereal, bacon eggs beans and sausages. After breakfast we were told to pack our bags for the day. We were told that we were going to climb hellvelyn. Once everyone was ready and packed we got on to the mini bus and set off to hellvelyn. When we arrived at the car park we got our boots on and started a long walk up hellvelyn. When we got about halfway up hellvelyn we had lunch and had a rest. Once everyone had eaten we started to climb again it took about 2 hours to get to the top from where we had a break. I found it scary because I’m scared of heights. I was really pleased when I reached the top. We were at the top for about ten minutes then we made our way back down to the mini bus but it was a very long walk back. It was a long and tiring walk. I was so relieved to get to the minibus. When we got back to the hostel we played cards, a game called cheat, I really enjoyed it. While we were playing cards we got called for tea. Once we had tea we arranged a time for bed. When it got to that time we got ready for bed and went to bed.

On the 26th July I was woken up by Jamie Drummond when we had woke me up I got ready for breakfast which was at 8.30 and once we had finished breakfast we went and got ready for rock climbing and canoeing. Once everyone was ready we set off to the rock climbing place. When we got to the rock climbing we had to wear a helmet and harness for our safety. Once we had done that we split into to two groups and got started on the rock climbing the first one we did was really hard no one in both groups completed it but the second wall we done was easier because more people completed it in both groups. Once everyone had done both walls we took our helmets and harnesses off and went home to have our lunch. Once we had our lunch we set off to do some canoeing we choose our boast s and who was in our boats. Once was in their boats the race started to the island and back. We were the last there and the last back but it was good fun. When we all got back we had some mini races everyone fell in and got a bit wet. So before we got on the bus we had to change our clothes so the minibus didn’t get wet. When I got back I started playing cards with other people. While we were playing cards we were called for tea once we had tea we arranged a time for bed and when it got to that time we went to bed.

On the 27th July at 8.00am I woke up. When I woke up, I got up and went downstairs for breakfast then we were told to get ready and pack our bags. Once everyone was ready we got on to the minibus. When we arrived we were put into two groups and we were told what we were going to do first. Our group was doing orienteering first and the other group did mountain biking first. In orienteering we had to find letters to make a word. The first word was pretty easy but the second word was really hard because neither of the groups got it. The first word was timber and we later found out the second was wildlife. When our time was up we went back to the minibus to meet up and have lunch. After lunch we did mountain biking, there was a blue route which was easy; there was a red route which was hard and a black route which is severe. We choose the blue route which was hard enough. At the start I fell off and it hurt, but I carried on. Going up the hills was the hardest bit about the mountain biking. Once we had finished that we went back to the hostel and played a bit of cards, while we were playing cards we were called for tea. After we had tea we were called for a meeting about what was the hardest part of the week so far. I said that climbing hellvelyn was the hardest part of the week so far. After the meeting we arranged a time for bed, when it got to that time we went to bed.

On the 28th July I woke up at 7.45am and got up at 8.00am. I got up and got dressed for breakfast at 8.30am. Once we had breakfast we were told to pack for the expedition we were about to go on. Once we had packed we left at 2.00pm we walked up high pike and went to lingie hut to get to the camp site we wanted to camp in. It took about 4 hours to get to the campsite and when we got there we set up our bivvi bags and sleeping bags for the night. Once we had done that we started to cook for tea. I had bacon, beans and omelette. Then I had pudding, it was chocolate pudding. After that I went to bed. I think the bed was slightly uncomfortable but it wasn’t too bad.

On the 29th July I woke up outside in the campsite. I woke up really early so I was tired for the rest of the day. For breakfast I had beans and sausages, it was really nice. After I had breakfast we packed to go back to the hostel. When we got back we unpacked our expedition bags and gave them back. We also handed back the other equipment we had borrowed for the week. After that we went to Keswick town. I bought sweets at Keswick town we then went back to the hostel and played cards. Then we had tea after that we arranged a time for bed, and then we went to bed.

On the 30th July I got up 7.30am to do some last minute packing because today was the day we were leaving after a week there. Once I had done that I went downstairs for breakfast which was different. We only had cereal and toast instead. Once I had breakfast Jamie came in with a list of jobs and who was doing the them. I did two jobs these were the games room and the room I was sleeping in. the jobs took about three quarters of an hour. After all the jobs were done we sat in the hall way. Jamie asked us how good the week was. I said 9 out of 10. After that we got on to the minibus and started our journey back home. It was a tiring week but it was still a great week. Can’t wait to back next year.
