Congratulations to Isobel Hasler-Davis, 11, from The Hub Youth Club,
Wivenhoe for designing a
fantastic Christmas card, which won her £20 and 20 copies of her cards printed for her to
use, as well as fame among all of our
affiliated clubs across the county who will each receive a card!
It was a tough competition and in the end finalists were whittled
down from 26 to the final three.
Fantastic designs from Charlie
Cotgrove (Chelmer Village YC)
and Emily Berry (The Hub) were just pipped to the line by Isobel,
with our Director, Martin, appreciating Isobel's reference to our activities.
Well done Isobel!

Frenford Clubs in Ilford was busy last night as one of their most famous faces returned to visit the club on the night of their AGM. Ravi Bopara, England and Essex cricketer dropped in for a Q&A session before the club members were presented with Jack Petchey Awards and ASDAN Awards. Essex Boys and Girls Clubs Director Martin Solder was there to congratulate the young people. The charity has been working with the club as part of the Jack Petchey Club Improvement Scheme and we're thrilled that two Level 2 NVQ Youthwork Qualifications were awarded last night as a result of the scheme.

The charity hosted the Clubs for Young People Class A and Class C National Boxing Finals on Thursday 24th November at Harlow Greyhound Stadium, Essex. Boxers from all over England and Wales had boxed in as many as 6 previous stages of the competition to get an opportunity to contend for the prestigious national titles. The competitiveness and skill of all the boys was matched by their self-discipline and respect for one another.
Among the excited crowds were professional boxers Tony Conquest and Jason Rowland, as well as former European Champion and Sky Sports Pundit Spencer Oliver and former World Featherweight Champion Barry McGuigan. Terry Gillam ABA, Officer in Charge of the evening praised Afsheen Panjalizadeh, Essex Boxing Development Officer who worked with Essex Boys and Girls Clubs to organise the event: “Everything was perfect; everything I asked for was done correctly and amicably and the show was fantastic, the boxing was very good and I can’t praise the event enough.”

The fog descended over Spaynes Hall Farm in Great Yeldham for our annual Night Exercise on Saturday 19th November to make the event even more thrilling... Local MP Brooks Newmark sounded the starting klaxon and 52 intrepid young people set out in teams armed with just a map and torch, to navigate their way along the challenging route as fast as possible. “The kids got such a big buzz out of it and I know they'll be talking about it for weeks.” said Martin Boughtwood, Club Leader of Sampfords Youth Club.
Next year's event will be on 17th November 2012 and teams and volunteers should register their interest now by emailing charlie@essexboysandgirlsclubs.org

Essex Boys and Girls Clubs are once again at the forefront of a new Government backed initiative during the Summer of 2012. It is the launch of the second large-scale pilot of National Citizen Service (NCS).
NCS gives 16 year olds (young people coming out of year 11) the chance to take part in a summer programme that is challenging, fun and develops skills and confidence.
We are rolling out programmes in Thurrock, Chelmsford, Southend, Basildon and Uttlesford in 2012.
If you want to get involved in this fantastic opportunity contact Keith on 01245 264 783 or email keithc@essexboysandgirlsclubs.org

We raised a whopping £3,647 at our Classic Golf Day at Bentley Golf Club on 29th September 2011. Seventeen teams of golfers, including celebrities from the world of sport and entertainment, competed on this excellent course near Brentwood, Essex. After a full English breakfast and a shotgun start, the teams made their way around the course on what was a beautiful sunny day. They enjoyed refreshments at the ninth hole, kindly donated by Eat Natural and Cabana Water, and went on to achieve some impressively high scores. Dinner by the Bentley Golf Club catering team was followed by the presentation of awards generously sponsored by St James's Wealth Management, Warburtons and Peter Watts Wines. Gorgeous George Saunders compered the auction of sports memorabilia and entertainment goodies, and King of the One-Liners Joe Goodman treated players to a comedy routine which generated lots of laughter.
